In the last 18 months, I became a bit obsessed with anti-ageing treatments, nutrition, lifestyle choices... Not so much in the superficial sense but more in the cellular, real-energy, hormone-balance, inflammation-reduction sense.
It started back 7-8 years ago, with YouTube deep dives via Joe Rogan, who introduced me to Dr. Rhonda Patrick, David Sinclair and more recently, Bryan Johnson.
The last one sent me down a new rabbit hole. Johnson’s obsessive approach to longevity is part science, part systems... I studied (and tried for a couple of months) his famous morning pudding and supplements and ended up rebuilding my own version of it with ingredients I could mix / purchase more conveniently myself.
Coffee used to be my default every morning to start the day - I needed the energy hit and the ritual of making it kinda grounded my mornings and started the day off.
But I noticed it was depleting my magnesium (which majorly affected my immune system and sleep) and, over time, I could sense it was making me feel less stable than I wanted to feel (especially under stress). Now I only have coffee semi-occasionally and my new blend/formula/recipe-thing replaced it. And believe it or not, I don’t miss the coffee.
This is a cacao based drink, so it has the richness or bitterness of coffee but hits different - it’s way more of a functional substitute, full of things my present self (and future self) thanks me for.
Here’s what goes into it:
Ceremonial cacao
Filtered water
Organic cold-pressed coconut oil
Essential Greens Powder by Melrose
Organic hemp protein powder
Organic pomegranate powder
Organic maca powder (not macha)
Ground organic cold-milled flaxseed powder
Cinnamon powder
Ground ginger
Chia seeds (1 tbsp)
Cayenne pepper (1/4 tsp)
Black pepper (pinch)
Cocoa powder (1 tsp)
Pumpkin seed oil (20 ml)
Cod liver oil (1 tsp)
Hemp seed oil (1 tsp)
Raw honey (for sweetness)
Everything goes into a pot with filtered water and/or whole (unhomognised) milk and is heated gently. It turns into a thick hot chocolate, spiced concoction that’s actually filling.
The results? Noticeable :)
Three or four months in, I started feeling more energised , healthier, calm and focused with no need for the morning caffeine hit. LI also noticed after nearly 8 months of this, I have not been sick or unwell once (uncommon for me). Generally I feel stronger, which is cool.
I haven’t noticed a huge change in my sleep. But my mood, my motivation, my ability to exercise and stay mentally sharp—they’ve all levelled up.
The drink is nutritionally dense enough to count as a meal. Full of healthy fats, protein, fibre, antioxidants, and adaptogens. I don’t crave coffee and I don’t feel hungry. I feel steady.
Zooming out a bit...
Seven or eight years ago, I started using the sauna regularly. It was Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s conversations on the long-term effects of heat stress that got me into it. (She's also a big fan of anti-aging research and supplements). After looking into her advice on heat stress, I was hooked and ended up purchasing my own infrared sauna for home.
The benefits were too good to ignore—increased heat shock proteins, improved cardiovascular function, reduced inflammation, and a real sense of reset.
Rhonda Patrick, David Sinclair, Bryan Johnson—they’re my go-to voices when it comes to ageing well and living well.
If you want to try making this concoction yourself, drop a comment and I’ll add the full shopping list and links to the online stores…
